Untangle Integrates Community Contributions into Core Untangle Gateway Platform

SAN MATEO, Calif. – February 14, 2008 – Untangle, the pioneer in open source network gateway platforms for small to medium sized business, today announced that anti-spam and anti-phishing contributions provided by the open source community will be integrated into the next version of the Untangle Gateway Platform, scheduled for general availability in March. Thriving communities often indicate the health and long-term viability of an open source project.

For the upcoming release, Untangle’s community members provided new rule sets, signature sites and scripts to enhance the product’s spam-blocking and anti-phishing functionality. They also played a major role in organizing beta testing, posting results, support activities and bug reporting.

“For the next release of the Untangle Gateway Platform, the Untangle community has provided significant functionality far beyond what our internal team could have done on its own,” said Dirk Morris, Untangle Co-Founder and CTO. “From code, to research, to testing, to tuning, to support, this level of participation has been very exciting and certainly serves to validate our open source model.”

In less than eight months, the Untangle Gateway Platform has surpassed 200,000 users. As the world’s first commercial-grade open source solution for blocking spam, spyware, viruses, adware and unwanted content on the network, the Untangle Gateway Platform is available as a free download on SourceForge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/untangle/ ) under the GPL v2 license.

“The participation we are seeing from Untangle’s community has truly exceeded our expectations,” said Bob Walters, CEO of Untangle. “Certainly we owe a big thank-you to the many users and forum members for their feedback, bug submissions and community participation.”
