Untangle Releases NG Firewall Version 11.2

Upgraded Intrusion Prevention, Reporting, and Other Features Highlight Significant Value in the NG Firewall v11.2 Release

 

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Aug. 18, 2015) – Untangle, Inc., a network security software and appliance company, today announces the availability of NG Firewall v11.2, which features major upgrades to intrusion prevention, reporting, and other features.

Keeping to its freemium roots, Untangle updated the free Intrusion Prevention application available within NG Firewall. It now scans network traffic against 34,000 plus signatures and updates to the newest Talos signatures automatically. It also supports heuristic signatures to detect behaviors like port scans. Version 11.2 upgrades have significantly increased Intrusion Prevention app performance.

The free Reports app, rebuilt top-to-bottom, sets a new performance threshold for network traffic visibility. It transforms large data sets into visually intuitive reports with drill-down capabilities. It features real-time, interactive, and dynamically customizable reports. Fully integrated within NG Firewall v11.2, the Reports app doesn’t require a separate appliance or server.

Updates to the Captive Portal application provide an improved user experience. New cookie-based persistent-login code reduces the need for recurring logins. There is a new option to recommend the installation of an HTTPS certification and to redirect users to an HTTPS login page (instead of HTTP). Additionally, login pages are now mobile-friendly.

Other NG Firewall v11.2 upgrades:

  • MAC address rules are now supported—rules can match to client, server, and “vendor” (from OUI database) MAC addresses.
  • Updates were made to OpenVPN Windows® client, and a new OpenVPN Chromebook™ deployer supports Chromebook™ integration.
  • OVA files are now automatically built for easier VM deployment.
  • Directory Connector now uses a SSL connection to the Active Directory server.
  • New IPv6 filter rules.

Untangle NG Firewall Version 11.2 is available as a free download. Current Untangle customers will be able to upgrade seamlessly at no charge.
